HOME PAGE > WINES OF FRANCE

French wine is produced in several regions throughout France, and the world's largest wine producer, ahead of Italy and the second-largest total vineyard area behind Spain.

French wine traces its history to the 6th century BC, with many of France's regions dating their wine-making history to Roman times. The wines produced today range from expensive high-end wines sold internationally, to more modest wines usually only seen within France.

One of the attractions of a holiday in France is to visit some of the local vineyards or caves to sample the wines that are on offer. And of course, to buy a bottle or two to drink during a leisurely evening meal.

This page will grow over time as more information is added and will allow producers or wine merchants - exporters, shops and
other outlets will be able to advertise their products or services. For more information contact info@frenchcountry.co.uk

Languedoc-Roussillon claims to be the largest vineyard in the world, and anyone who has spent a holiday here wouldn't argue with this. The whole region is dominated by vineyards, and life revolves around the production of wine.

Wines of Languedoc-Roussillon | Saint Chinian, Faugères...

The vineyards that produce the wines of Faugères and Saint Chinian, like all of the Coteaux du Languedoc, go back to Roman times. Most of the vines are grown in rocky stony soil, and produce a red wine that is the perfect accompaniment for meats and game.

Most of the caves have people who are quite happy to spend time with visitors and to explain their craft and their life producing some of the best red wine in the world.
